This talk is guided by a handful of artists and practices I continuously return to in order to reflect on some of the concerns that inform my curatorial work: the social conditions of artistic production, institutional politics, public expectations, and personal desires, alongside questions around the languages and assumptions that structure curatorial discourse and habits. I will also speak about my understanding of Kunstvereine as places with their own contradictions and layered histories, and about my interest in the role they can play in relation to artists at different moments in their practices. I will also touch on the forms of subversion that such spaces can still make possible.

SPARTA is an independent, student-led space that hosts lectures, workshops, and student projects.
